Brit Banned and Fined for Driving with No Hands After Being Caught on Camera

You know the feeling when you just want to stretch your hands out a bit on the road? Well, Richard Newton, 36, from Whitby, England, felt something like that, but the only thing is, he did it while speeding over 60mph (around 100km/h) for at least 25 seconds while passing several cars. And oh, he was also captured on film by North Yorkshire Police's mobile safety camera…

On Monday, the Scarborough Magistrates' Court found him guilty of dangerous driving and handed him a 12-month driving suspension along with 100 hours of unpaid community work and a £625 fine (US$1,025 or €750) with a £60 surcharge.

Dave Brown, the head of North Yorkshire Police's Mobile Safety Camera Team, commented:

"This case demonstrates two things, one is the sheer stupidity of some people who put others in danger, and the other is the ability of our safety camera to capture a range of offences. This is yet another case which shows that these cameras are about safety and not just speeding. We will take action against all manner of offences to ensure we keep our roads as safe as possible for everyone."

Newton, a car mechanic in profession, told the judge that he was tired and needed to stretch his hands adding, “I was still in control of the vehicle. I had my knees locked and my legs braced against the steering wheel.”

Cop Steps Out to Stop Speeding Motorcyclists, Causes a Crash

We're not saying that police officers shouldn't enforce the law especially when motorists and motorcyclists place themselves and others in danger, but popping out of the bushes and stepping onto the road to surprise and stop a biker isn't exactly the safest or most sensible of practices….

This incident, which reportedly occurred in Britain, was captured on film by several cameras, including from a police officer and the two motorcycles involved in the crash that happened after the cop tried to stop the first one for speeding.

The problem was that the biker coming from behind was caught by surprise (partially due to the low visibility caused by the fog and the fact that he was going faster than what the conditions allowed), and as a result, crashed into the first motorcyclist.

Florida Auto Transporter Borrows Corvette to Impress Girlfriend, Lands in Jail

While temptations are everywhere, that does not mean you should give into them, otherwise, you may end up in a pickle like this Florida auto transporter who borrowed a 2011 Chevrolet Corvette C6 he was transferring to its new owner to go out on a date with his girlfriend.

The driver, 49-year-old Ronald Francis Kelly of Sebring, Florida, had a two-day layover in Pearland where he was supposed to pick up additional vehicles headed for the sunshine state.

To kill some time, he parked the truck at a Walmart store and took down a 2011 Corvette that was already inside the trailer and used it for two days. The joy-ride ended at around 9:15 p.m. on New Year’s Day when Pearland Police pulled him over for a traffic violation where it was discovered that Kelly wasn't the real owner of the car.

The man told police that he was a driver for an auto transport company and that he was allowed to use the Corvette. However, when officers contacted the transport company and the vehicle’s owner, they told them that Kelly was only authorized to load and unload cars from the trailer.

Subsequently, felony charges were filed for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. According to the Pearland Journal, Kelly was taken into custody and is currently held at the Brazoria County Jail on a $20,000 bond.

Chrysler 300 is No Match for Swift and Forceful Aussie Riot Squad

A disgruntled 58-year old former taxi driver sparked a tense situation during a two-hour standoff outside the Parliament House in Sydney, Australia, on Friday, when he parked his white Chrysler 300 and threatened to blow up the building by allegedly lighting two tanks with 20-liters of petrol on the passenger seat and another 19-liters in the boot.

Australian authorities took action and tactical operations officers smashed their way into his Chrysler apprehending the man, who has since been identified as Abdula Ganiji, with the entire scene playing on live television.

The Sydney Morning Herald said that Ganiji was protesting over a $200 fine he received…15 years and as it turns out, he had gone on a hunger strike outside the Parliament last year for the same reason, demanding at the time that Premier Barry O'Farrell launch a "full investigation" into a dispute he had with former employer Wollongong Radio Cabs.

Ganiji was refused bail during a court hearing on Saturday where it was revealed that police found a two-liter fruit juice container, fuel and a cigarette lighter in his car.

Specialist Mitsubishi Shogun SUVs for UK's Highway Agency

You could call them the men in lime-green, but that doesn't sound right, does it… Anyway, the people running the Highway Agency in Britain will employ the use of a new batch of 30 Mitsubishi Shogun SUVs, or as it's known in other markets, the Pajero.

The bespoke Shoguns come with special light bars, grill lights and Highways Agency livery, with each example taking up to 24 hours to complete.

"The Shogun is a tough, practical vehicle but it is also extremely comfortable to drive," said Dan Pigot, Corporate Sales Manager at Mitsubishi Motors in the UK. "For eight hours of the day the vehicle is their office so it needs to be comfortable and the feedback from the traffic officers is that they really like the Shoguns."

Mitsubishi seems to be a beloved brand among government agencies as earlier this year, the Japanese firm supplied 138 specialist vehicles to the Environment Agency, including 70 new Outlanders.
